Alistair followed his three older brothers to Tain Public School and TRA which he left in 1937 to begin working in a Glasgow insurance office. On the outbreak of WW2 he was enlisted in Dunbarton and told to report to the Cameron Barracks in Inverness from which he emerged as Pte Davidson 2932289.A period of training was followed by a brief visit to France as part of the BEF. He managed to escape the clutches of the enemy and embarked on a ship at Cherbourg before rejoining the (very) depleted 1st Btn. of the QOCH. Further training in East Yorkshire led to three years in India and Burma. In late 1943 Alistair was transferred to the Intelligence Corps. It was at this point that Sgt Davidson through a transport muddle met his older brother Allan (known to many Tainites as the Saddler at 3 Queen Street, Tain) in Chittagong. They had not seen each other for four years.
In early 1945 Alistair was granted 28 days leave and spent that time in Tain. His return to the Far East in March 1945 heralded an exciting and at times dangerous period ending with Alistair and his team pushing towards Rangoon in the vanguard of the 5th Division.. It was at this time he was Mentioned in Despatches. On his return to the UK he spent a short period with the Intelligence Corps based in Edinburgh before demob.
Alistair returned to the world of insurance, married Peggy Cooper (sister of Charles Cooper,Post Office, Tain) with whom he had three children. Alistair died in Edinburgh in 1977 aged 58 years.
