Object Description

Bone herring net needle with netting twine wound around the shank that was donated by Mrs Anna Mackenzie (nee Skinner) from Hilton.
During the 19th and early 20th century, the herring industry provided jobs for both men and women on the Easter Ross Peninsula. During the season they followed the fish from Shetland to the fishing ports of eastern England.
