Object Description

Military General Service Medal, issued to Sergeant Donald Ross, 71st Foot in 1848. The face of the medal has the head of Queen Victoria with "Victoria Regina" and 1848. Reverse has two figures and "to the British army 1793-1814" "D Ross, 71st Foot" on the rim. The ribbon is wine edged with navy. There are four bars bearing battle honours "Pyrenees", "Fuentes D'Onor, "Corunna", and "Vimiera". See 4263.002a/b The medal is contained in a cardboard box inscribed on the lid "List 27 1800 - D Ross 71st Foot."


Donald Ross enlisted in the 71st Foot in the year 1800 was discharged in 1814 consequence "of a gunshot wound and a ball lodged in the chest received in Action with the enemy on the 31st July on the height of Donna Maria"
