Trusty friend, we great you hertlie. Wee having upon the occasion of the late barbarous and horrible cruelty by the wicked & unhappy race of the Clan Gregor upon our good subjects of the Lennox was given order & commission to pursue of their villains with fire & sword … our cousin the Marquis of Huntly with special power and commission to prosecute the same villains & to hound them out of the bounds of the north… thot good hereby to command you that ye on no ways reset any of their villains their wives or bairns, hold or keep any of yr. goods, make barter or bargains with them under what-so-ever colour or pretence but that sincerely you hold hand to the pursuit & follow the direction of our said cousin… as ye will answer on yer obedience at your peril So we commit you to God.
