A collection of coins found, by a metal detectorist, not far from the site of the Battle of Carbisdale fought near the village of Culrian in 1650.
They include; one Queen Elizabeth I sixpence, one Charles I shilling, two Spanish Netherlands half Patagons and one Holy Roman Empire Patagon. The coins likely belonged to one of Montrose's two hundred soldiers who were said to have drowned trying to escape across the Kyle River.
