A spokeshave, which is a two-handed plane used in the making of wooden wheels. It consists of a piece of wood carved at both ends to form handles. The middle is rectangular in shape with a metal blade inserted, the arms of which protrude through the wood at the back of the tool.

Single furrow model plough. Cutting area and hand grips aluminium. The remainder painted green. The model is perfect in every detail and was made as an apprentice blacksmiths exercise.

Victorian Safety Spec's made of black wire gauze. Black thin string across the nose and for tying around the back of the head. This set is said to have been used by a worker who was breaking up boulders into stone rubble to use as a foundation for roads in the forestry.

The set consists of two steel blades with long narrow shafts and triangular heads. Each shaft has a small hole at the end to fit over a retaining pin in the brass holder/handle. A spring mechanism holds and releases the blade. The wooden case is covered with leather and lined with red velvet. The top is tooled with a decoration of thistles and is dated 1773. The knives may have been used by Hugh McFarquhar, a doctor in Tain from 1744 to 1794.

Bone herring net needle with netting twine wound around the shank that was donated by Mrs Anna Mackenzie (nee Skinner) from Hilton.During the 19th and early 20th century, the herring industry provided jobs for both men and women on the Easter Ross Peninsula. During the season they followed the fish from Shetland to the fishing ports of eastern England.

13 Mason's tools chisels found in a round container, in the house of Andrew Ross, Manse Street, Tain, by John MacRae, joiner. The house was rebuilt in 1850. Found with an old golfball, leather hand-stitched and stuffed,Tandm 802

Mason's Chisels

Wedge-shaped iron horse sharp or coggie with square section shaft, to be inserted into a horseshoe to prevent slipping on ice. Probably made at Achnagarron smithy.

A set of 'Chesterman' Surveyor's chain consisting of 98 strips of metal each 135mm in length. They are hooked at each end through which there is an interlocking chain. There are seven small brass markers at approximately 830mm intervals. Brass triangular-shaped handles at each end.

Anderson and Co Compass in a round tin, glass top. The Colour of the tin is grey. Points of the compass printed in black and white. This compass was used by Mrs Kennedy Vass's great grandfather in a herring boat.
