    David Herriot

My mother and my elder brother and sister were born in Tain the latter 2 in 1942 & 1944 respectively and my mother, Helen Whyte McCracken, in 1916. I was therefore delighted to see my mother smiling from the front left row of this picture as a senior pupil at Tain Royal Academy in 1932. My grandfather, William Rennie McCracken, was headmaster of Knockbreck Primary from 1904 to 1937. My mother married a Peebles-born banker John Ferme Herriot in Glasgow on 20 Feb 1940; they had 4 children. Sadly, she died on 5 July 2004 at the grand age of 88. If anyone has any record or detail of the McCrackens and subsequently the Herriots in Tain from the early 1900s to 1948 when my parents moved to Glasgow, it would help my Family History Research immensely. As a RAF navigator, I have been back to Tain many many times but only set my feet on the ground during family pilgrimages. I hope my airborne visits did not cause too much disturbance!

David, the museum has several photos of your grandfather at the school and the golf club, and also of your mother and aunts at school. Watch this space!

David, please could you send a note of your postal address to the museum (you can find our address on the contact page from the main menu). We have tried to contact you by email on Dec 3rd and Feb 16th without success - it looks as if we will have to resort to a more traditional method of communication! Thanks.
