The ghillie in this photo, taken near Deanich Lodge in the early 1920's, is Hector Macleod (1860-1941), Great Grandfather of contributor, Ross Macleod. The figure in the doorway is Hector's youngest son - Ross's Grandfather. At the time Deanich was part of the Balnagown Estate but the area is now the Alladale and Deanich Estate.     Hi Ross Mcleod, Please tell me how close to Deanich Lodge was this building, east, west, north or south and is this cottage still standing ?

    I believe this is the original lodge. A covered entrance porch was added some time later. Some recent photos are available here http://users.bigpond.com/ross.macleod/deanich/ The cottage in the background of http://www.tainmuseum.org.uk/imagelibrary/picture.asp?id=179 has now gone.
