Photo Description

This picture gives a good idea of what life was like in the rural areas of Ross-shire at the turn of the century compared to the present day. Note that most of the children have bare feet - a common practice in summer months.

Is it possible to find out which of the buildings here was the old school? An ancestor of mine, Malcolm McLean taught there from about 1860-1867 before he went on to study for the ministry. He was eventually inducted in Fearn Abbey in 1872.

The Old School/Schoolhouse is the two storey building at the top of the street in the background. We believe this school/schoolhouse was originally built in 1793-94, this picture was dated in 1910 and may have already been converted to two dwelling houses at that time. We are currently trying to determine if we live in the schoolhouse or the school, if anyone has any information on this it would be much appreciated.
