    RODDY MATHESON

Yes had a few of these teachers; fond memories. Sandy Leitch was avery good teacher; Miss Watson a very cool teacher; the very best was Neil Macarthur. Now there was a pupils teacher.

Connie was a really nice person. Many a time I forgot my dinner ticket and she helped me out. What a really kind person she was.

No 15 is Miss Henrietta Young (English ) . Is the teacher with the glasses beside Neil MacArthur not Mr Mackenzie ( Maths) and between him and Mr Beaton the geography teacher ( Mr Grant ?). No 14 was the science teacher but we called him "Noddy" and I don't remember his real name ....

    Donald Paterson

Jack Paterson was my dad - he died in 1996. My mother, Betty Paterson, later taught in the old Academy as well. She is now in Duthac House care home, which is the same building, of course.

Noddy McDonald was a brilliant teacher! Got me through my Higher maths fuelled by his refreshing approach. Bumped into him, as a teacher myself, at Keith Grammar School declaring out loud, "Noddy McDonald! what are you doing here?" to the embarrassment of the headmaster - apparently Noddy had done well for himself and was very high up the Educational ladder! Oh, well - he'll always be just Noddy McDonald to me

    George MacKenzie

This photograph brings back memories. 15 is Miss Young, English teacher. 17 is Connie MacKay, school secretary. Mr Melville tried to teach me French and German. My attempts at German translation would usually get responses from him such as 'you wouldn't notice a baby elephant if it was tied to a chain round your neck' or 'you remind me of my pet snail Brian'. Happy days.

I should have written Mr Melvin. I went on to study Art in Aberdeen. Miss MacLeod was a big influence.

Mr MacKenzie (Scoopie, something to do with golf and bunkers, I believe), Maths teacher. What an inspirational teacher. Was with me all through my academic years, 1959-1965 and was my guide to becoming a Maths teacher myself. Lovely memories!!

Noddy Macdonald came to view our house in Newburgh when we were moving to Alness. 'Loved the house, but said our dining room wasn't big enough to take his grand piano. Amazingly, he said he was surprised that I recognised him!
