Private Thomas Campbell (Paisley)

Private Thomas Campbell was born at Paisley in 1891. His mother Elizabeth Campbell was from Tain and both were at Calrossie by 1901. He enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders at Tain and went to France with the 2nd Battalion on the 23rd of August 1914. He was killed in action on October 26th, 1914. His company were digging trenches at Frelinghien, Lille in Northern France when they came under fire from shrapnel, maxim and rifle fire. Twenty three men were killed that day, thirty seven were wounded and three men were missing. He was entitled to the 1914 Star with the Mons Clasp, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. We do not have a photograph of Private Campbell.
